Bill and I enjoy traveling with our dog teams doing public demonstrations and educational activities. Our focus is to teach about the working sled dog and also to promote humane treatment of these dogs. We have demonstrated our techniques at several schools in CT and at other organizations ranging from groups of three years olds to middle school age students and to finally, senior citizens. We like to custom design our programs to meet the individual needs of the group. Our approach is hands on and our dogs have been trained to respond to interaction with strangers in a very positive manner. They are friendly, gentle and especially tolerant. Our sessions are flexible and may include reading sled dog related books to students, dogsled demonstrations or just plain socializing and fun with the dogs.
We also offer to all ages mushing clinics. This is a hands on experience with our Siberian Huskies. You will learn the history and behavior of this amazing northern breed dog. You will be shown and taught the names of the various pieces of equipment needed for the running of dogs. Then you will see how to handle, harness, and hook up dogs to drive the sled. Finally we will unharness the dogs and learn about the importance of caring for a dog team after they have completed their run.
As there is no set fee for our clinics and events we do ask for a donation to offset the care and feeding of the dogs. Please email us with any questions and we will be glad to offer any information to assist you.
